I once dyed my hair ash blonde on top of a very light blonde, and my hair looked sort of violet, so I called the 800 number on the box, asked them the same question, and was told by the "people who know" that I could dye it right away. They even sent me a complementary box of the color I normally used. (Same company of course). If you aren't certain, or if you're confused by the two answers here, do what I did: Call the 800 number on the box listed for questions or customer service and ask them.
