Where Does Sodium Chloride Comes From?

    Sodium chloride is an ionic compound. It is formed by the combination of two ions. These ions include sodium ion and chloride ion. Sodium ion is a cation and chloride ion is an anion. Sodium chloride is a salt. The process of formation of salt is known as neutralization. When hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide are mixed, they reacted to neutralize each other and to form a salt and water. The balanced equation for the reaction is;

    HCl + NaOH ----------- > NaCl + H2O
