The economy would grind to a halt. We would all go back to being "third world" nations, which means living very simple and impoverished lives. Nobody could go to work more than 10 or so miles away. We couldn't get very much produce to market. Our world depends on transportation and the economy benefits from it.

Cars, the bike thing would not work for services needed by 99 percent of the population and you would be trapped in the area you live if anything tragic happened say like gustav....now if it was enforced say in the downtown areas except for service vehicles and bulk transports like hydrogen powered buses and electric subways/trolleys so the people riding bikes did not have to suffer a early death from breathing the exhaust from all the buses and trams.. Then you mite have something...oh! I almost forgot another thing how would seniors be transported on bikes to their doctors appointments and errands hmmmm?later :)
