Why Wont Banks Cash A US Income Tax Return Check Without An Account At Their Bank, Is This Legal?

Answer Question

Yes, this is legal. It's a safety precaution in case the check turns out to be fraudulent and 'bounces'. They need to be able to be sure they can track you down in such an event, because if not, they've just lost whatever amount they gave you but never got themselves. Your best bet is to try to cash it somewhere else, like a Wal-Mart.
