Weevils bore into wood and set out a nursery in neat lines rather like capital letter I's on top of each other. In each branch an egg is laid which hatches into a grub, which then eats wood until it is adult. Once adult, the Weevil ventures into the big wild world to find other adults to make more fertilized eggs. Which is the reason you only see adult Weevils.
