What Does 'Reeds' Mean?

    'Reeds' is a plural the word for reed. 'Reeds' refers to any of the tall perennial grasses. These belong to the genera Phragmites or Arundo. The stems are hollow and the leaves are broad. The stalk of these plants also called reed. Even the collection of these is termed reed. For example: reed for making baskets. Reed is a bendable strip of cane or metal which is fixed into the mouth-piece or the air opening of certain wind instruments. It creates vibrations and produces sound when air is blown in through the instrument.

    The musical instruments like clarinet and oboe show possess reeds. A frame used for weaving is also called reed. It is movable and fixed with reed. It separates the threads in weaving.
