 Series EE bond refers to a Savings Bond that is issued at a discount from par, at par with a fixed rate of interest which is set at the time of purchase. The Interest on this type of bond is calculated semi-annually, but it is paid at maturity of the bond. It is exempt from state and local taxes. Series EE bond takes 30 years to mature and it earns interest for 30 years after they have been purchased.

 It takes about 10 years to mature, and continues to build interest for up to 30 years after it has been matured.
