    I believe that you are referring to the /proc filesystem in Linux.  This is a nothing more than a simply way for you to get information about your computer, the operating system and applications running on it.  It is organised the same as a regular disk-based system, with directories and files.

    For example, run the command:

    cat /proc/cpuinfo

    This tells you what your CPU configuration is; most of the files are human-readable like this.  Just list the directory contents, and just look at the contents of the files.  Don't try to write anything in /proc!
