Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Seven Sisters are a series of skyscrapers in Moscow, the capital of Russia built in the early 1950s during the regime of the Soviet leader Josef Stalin. The structures were built in the neo-gothic style incorporating elements of skyscrapers as well as traditional features like baroque and the Kremlin towers.

The Seven Sisters are Moscow State University Main Building, Hotel Ukraina, Hotel Leningradskaya, an apartment building on Kotelnicheskaya embankment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, the Ministry of Heavy Industry building, and an apartment building on Kudrinskaya square.

The main features of the building were a tiered like style that ended in a tower and was popularly known as wedding cake style architecture. The design of the Seven Sisters was derived from the plans drawn for the Palace of Soviets an ambitious project that was never commenced and included plans to build a 415 meters tall structure which if completed would have been the tallest structure in the world at that time.
