    Biscuit is an eatable. It is usually eaten with tea or milk. Biscuit is considered a small cake or baked bread. The word biscuit literally means 'twice cooked'. Bis means 'twice' and coctus means 'cook'. It finds its origin in Latin language. The verb coctus is the past participle of the Latin verb 'coquere'. In British English, biscuit refers to a thin and crisp cracker. Cookies are also called biscuits.

    Biscuits are made of small bread that is leavened using baking powder or soda. Biscuits with toppings are also called shortcakes. In southern US biscuits are made with buttermilk. There are cheese biscuits and sweet biscuits. Example: Anzac and Tim Tam Australian biscuits. The word 'biscuit' is used to denote a colour which is pale brown or light brown and is called 'biscuit colour'. Clay that has been put through but is not glazed is called 'biscuit' or 'bisque'.
