One can use the walk in taxpayer help from the Maine Taxpayer Service Centre, in Room 301 of the Muskie Federal Building, at the corner of Western Avenue and Sewall Street in Augusta. It is situated right across the hall from the office of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to offer the convenience of a one stop shop service. The Service Centre functions from Mondays to Fridays from eight o'clock in the morning to 4:30 in the evening.

Individual Income tax in Maine is mainly imposed on every person who has Maine-source income. The rates are measured off, ranging from 2 percent to 8.5 per cent.

Maine also charges tax on all organisations and corporations which have Maine-source income. Again, the rates are measured off, ranging from 3.5 per cent to 8.93 per cent.
