Is the creditor a bank, has he made all the agreed payments, is it titled in his name with the creditor as lienholder?

It sounds like he is behind on his car payments and they are trying to get him to get caught up or turn the car in. If the repo the car, he may be liable for not only what he owes but also the repossession costs. It depends on the state. He really should talk to the creditor and either figure out a way to get caught up or turn in the car to avoid further problems.
