We can define Tax as share of income or expenses paid by citizens to the public exchequer. It is the job of a government to provide, the protection to the life of citizen, protection to the property of citizens, education and hospitals for the sick. Besides all this, governments make arrangements for education, provide hospitals for the sick, maintain the roads and highways, maintain the law and order, and attend to sanitation.
Now all these great public duties need money. An army and navy has to be kept up, the police force have to be paid, schools and colleges have to be provided and teachers supported, expert health officers and sanitary engineers employed. Whether these expenses are borne by central government or local bodies like town, councils, money is needed for all of them.
Therefore, it is only right and fair that the public, individual citizen should contribute the money needed, for the money they give in rates and taxes comes back to them in the shape of these benefits which all enjoy. This should be sufficient answer to those who grumble at having to pay taxes to government. Of course, no body likes paying taxes. Even those who know that taxation is necessary. According to the advantages of tax as I mentioned above no one can deny the importance of tax.
