    The word tonsillitis is defined as the inflammation or swelling of the tonsils. The swelling or inflammation of the tonsils, which is the main characteristic of tonsillitis, is usually caused either by a viral or a bacterial infection. It commonly affects children.

    The tonsils which are most likely to be affected if a person is suffering from tonsillitis are the palatine tonsils. The term tonsillitis basically refers to the inflammation or the swelling of the palatine tonsils, but the word tonsillitis can also be used to refer to the inflammation or swelling of the other types of tonsils.

    The tonsils are defined as those areas which are composed of the lymphoid tissue. They are located on either side of the throat in the human body. An infection of the tonsils is the simplest definition of the world tonsillitis. It can be treated by gargling with salt water, honey and lemon.
