The Taj Mahal is a famous monument in Agra, India and is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the medieval world; it is a mausoleum built almost entirely out of marble by the Emperor Shah Jahan of the Mughal dynasty in memory of his Queen Mumtaz Mahal. The construction work on the monument began in the year 1631 and ended in 1653; according to written records a total of 22,000 workers were involved in the construction process.

The Taj Mahal stands on the banks of the river Jamuna and is surrounded by four minarets or towers with an adjacent garden; the structure is built on a platform with the marble dome being the most prominent feature. It has become a well known symbol of love and royal splendor; the tombs of Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal are situated in a vault beneath the inner chambers.
