When Was The Electric Train Invented?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The term is usually restricted to locomotives which receive electrical power externally, rather than those which merely use electric generators and motors as transmission media. Thus, the first true electric train, which in this case was powered from a third rail, as for modern subways, was presented in 1879 by Werner von Siemens in Berlin.

If however you are taklking about model railway trains, the electric train is generally credited to Joshua Lionel Cowen, whose battery-powered Lionel train first appeared in 1901 in New York.
