How Does A Sous Chef Work His Way Up & Become A Head Chef? If He's Working Under A Head Chef, Doesn't That Mean He'll Replace The Head Chef? So, Would Not The Head Chef Be Out Of Job?

Yes. Unless, you work for so many years, you can obtain the title of Head Chef, but there can be two head chefs. It just normally doesn't work out. Usually once you reach the level of Head Chef, either you can go to another restaurant to replace the head chef(the head chefs choice), or await your chance to be a head chef.

Being a sous chef is how you can get your foot in the door. Odds are though that unless the head chef quits or is fired, you aren't going to take his job. He's probably got a lot more time at that place of work and wouldn't be allowed to train if he wasn't a good employee. Sometimes, the chef will train some one to take their place but rarely. Honestly, if you want to be a chef, take some local courses through the college if you have the financial ability. Hope this helps. And depending on the size of the restaurant, there can be two head chefs.
