When Was The Globe Theater Built?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Globe theatre was built in 1599, by the theatre company in which the legendary William Shakespeare was linked with.

The theatre was completely destroyed by fire in 1613 and later rebuilt in 1614. The modern building was reconstructed in 1997 and named as "Shakespeare's Globe Theatre"

Originally, Globe was an Elizabethan construction built on the south bank of the Thames. Julius Caeser, Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet and Othello were first enacted on the Globe theatre. During the performance of Henry VIII, the theatre was shattered due to the fire expelled from cannon ball. The building was made out of timber which led to rapid destruction. It was reconstructed again in 1614 but was again closed down by the puritans in 1642. The theatre had a rectangular platform with an open area in the middle. The stage measured 40 feet wide and 30 feet deep.
