What Has Mozart Brought Us? What Happened In 2006 - His 25th Anniversary?

Salzburg, the city of his birth, celebrated the genius not only with a Mozart-week in January 2006, but played all Mozart's operas during the Summer-Festival weeks.
Vienna - after reconstruction of the "Theater of Vienna" also dedicated the house to operas again, and played in its first season Mozart - Mozart - Mozart, but also new pieces about Mozart.
The rentability for Austria has also been calculated already: every Euro invested came back 7-fold. And the real winner is the CD-branch - a Mozart CD earns 4 times as much as a Beethoven CD, and 10 times as much as a Haydn.
In fact, the total cost of Mozart-productions in 2006 worldwide is some million times more than the life-earnings of Amadé, who was buried in a pauper's grave aged 36.
As much as he was kept like a slave by the peers of his time, hardly able to survive - always in debt - he's being celebrating like the superstar he was!

Actually January 2006 was the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.  Mozart left an amazing body of work  ex. dances, operas, sonatinas and concertos.  I recall a former piano teacher of mine telling me how talented Mozart was as a young student.  Apparently he would return home after attending a music recital and write out the musical score for what he had heard that evening.  There were very few errors in his work and he clearly demonstrated he had a natural gift for music.
