Mortal is a term that indicates anything subjected to death. All living things on this earth are said to be mortal. This means that they have a fixed life span and that one or the other day they are sure to die or perish. Things that don't perish or die are said to be immortal. Therefore immortal is the opposite of mortal. Thus the word mortal is always related to death. It is also term used to describe man because he is destined to die someday.

This term is frequently used in religious terms where men are advised to rise above their petty desires and cravings so that they can know about themselves and their purpose of life. Earth is also known as the mortal world because it is filled with mortal things. This word is a noun. It is derived from the Latin word mortalis or mort which means death.
