Not having a Matriculation degree will be a very big problem if he wants to pursue higher studies in Photography.Usually many diplomas does not require Matriculation degree but it is best if he gets one.

If your friend is a good photographer he could quite possibly become a pro. What he needs, what any photographer needs to become professional--that is, make a living at it--is the skills needed to run a small business, because that is the difference between the two. He needs to understand accounting, marketing, taxation, promotions, depreciation of equipment, advertising, pricing, competition--as well as the creative side of taking pictures, and the technology side of storing/printing/selling them. Small family businesses are everywhere in the world, they are the basis of all trade and commerce, many of these business owners cannot even read or write. They all make it because they are motivated. Your buddy has two things to consider: His resources (equipment, friends, contacts, money, location etc etc)--and his initiative: How bad does he want this> is he willing to make the mistakes and learn from them> Short answer is yes.
