When Was Peterborough United Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Peterborough United Football Club was founded in 1934. There had been a previous local football team from the area, named Peterborough and Fletton United, but they had disbanded in 1932. A meeting took place at the Angel Hotel in Peterborough and it was decided that a new town team should be formed to fill the gap.

The team was in existence for 26 years before it was eventually accepted into the Football League in 1960, when it replaced Gateshead Football Club.

Peterborough United have a fierce rivalry with local club Northampton Town FC as the two clubs are only approximately 40 miles apart.

Peterborough United play their home games at the ground of London Road Stadium which has a capacity for over 15,300 spectators. The nickname for the club is 'the Posh'.

The club currently plays in the League Two division. In the 2005/06 season, they finished in 9th place.
