The official schism was in 1054 AD; it was culminated by the simultaneous ex-communications of each other by the Bishop (Pope) of Rome, and the Patriarch of Constantinople.  These two great Apostolic Faiths are working together to re-unite in some way, as is the wish of our Lord Jesus Christ.
