What's The Name Of The Female Buddha? Is It Quon Yin?

Answer Question

    There is no "female Buddha".

But there is a special being some Buddhists believe in, a kind of deity (a Maha Bodhisattva) named Kwan Yin or Guang Yin (people spell the name in different ways).  In some traditions this being is male, but is seen as female in others.  Her name means the one who hears the cries of the people, and she is associated with profound universal compassion.

There are many lovely statues of her in Asia, often pictured with a vase of water pouring out(symbolizing compassion), with a willow leaf in hand, standing on lotuses on the sea.

In  Tibetan Buddhism there is a female Buddha called Tara.  Her story is that in a past incarnation a monk advised her to pray to be reborn male so she could progress to Buddhahood, but she went away and prayed ti be reborn as a female until she attained enlightenment in a female body.
