Answer Question

Yes, it's a very good idea to use spreadsheets for this purpose.
Family History research can get complicated as the amount of information grows.
You can buy excellent software such as Family Tree Maker to store data on.
The amount of information we collect when doing family history sometimes seems to get 'out of hand' and this is where spread sheets can come in.
The programme Access can be used but most people prefare to use Excell.
Information from census returns is well suited to Excell format as is that from any certificate for births, marriages and deaths.
The advantages of spread sheets are that you can easily add data as you collect it, alter columns, copy cells, insert rows and columns and adjust the width of a column to add flowing data.
You can also draw a family tree with a spread sheet and even insert photographs and other images.
Invest in a book called Using Spreadsheets for Genealogy by RS Designs, it's easy to understand and good value for money.
