The plan was invented because the Wright Brothers were inspired by the gliders and they wanted to invent such a machine which can fly like a glider with the help of a motor.

Because the wright brothers were observing birds, and they noticed how the birds changed the shapes of their wings when they wanted to change directions while flying. So the wright brothers wanted to build a glider that could use the same movements as a bird. With the same techniques as well. Hope that helped!!!!:-)
