Kadesh is more commonly referred to as Qadesh. It is an ancient settlement of the Levant. It lies in modern Syria and was located on the banks of the Orontes River.

Historically the city states formed a coalition to repel the invasion of Thutmose III in eth Levant. Two states led the others – Kadesh and Megiddo. The Egyptians however prevailed and Kadesh came under Egyptian suzerainty. Kadesh was the site of the Battle of Megiddo in the thirteenth century BC which took place between the Egyptians and the Hittites. The battle eventually remained a stalemate and since both sides claimed to have won the outcome was far from decisive.

Alternatively Kadesh in Judaism also means to recite the Kiddush which is a blessing generally said at on the Sabbath or over an evening meal over the wine.
