Which Reptiles Are Classified As Rare Species?

Reptiles are distinctly different animals from other species; they are cold blooded creatures having scaly skins and generally inhabiting burrows and other secluded spots.
Many reptiles like snakes, turtles, crocodiles have become endangered as a result of loss of habitat, hunting and also due to pollution which has greatly restricted their range.

The reptiles that can be mentioned as endangered are the Tuatara, the Komodo Dragon, the Gharial or Gavial, a kind of crocodile, different kinds of snakes like the San Francisco Garter snake, the Blue Racer snake, the Indigo snake among others, various turtles and tortoises, pythons, lizards like the Gila Monster and the Horned lizard. Reptiles are mainly hunted for their pelts and most of the hunting done is illegal. Also as most species of reptiles have not been properly studied it is not possible for experts to classify many species as rare or endangered. Most wildlife conservation societies also include reptiles like turtles as part of their sponsor animal programs.
