There is no prescribed age for cell phone. You can't put limit of cell phone on the age. Cell phone is a necessity. However, little children don't need the cell phones unless they are wise enough to use them. The cell phone should be allowed to children above 10. I would give my 14 year old child the cell phone and also keep close watch on him/her so he/she can't misuse it. The children can manage the expense of the cell phone from their pocket money.

I believe 14 is a good age. It will open a lot of freedoms and connections amongst friends. Look for a cell phone with gps in case they choose to hook up with the wrong crowd. Then you will at least be able to find the phone. I would recommend unlimited text messaging also. Even if you child doesn't text message, you will have to pay for any that he/she receives. Ten dollars a month is worth it, i have heard of people getting 800 dollar cell bill because of text messages.
