Post natal depression in men can and does happen, and it can be just as bad as when a woman has the condition. Around ten percent of new dads develop post natal depression and it tends to be a little more common in dads who have been depressed previously, or who have partners that have been depressed.
Usually the problem comes about due to the extra responsibilities and many dads are trying to balance work and home life, and sometimes that can be impossible. Also, usually the woman takes at least a little bit of time off to care for her new baby, and the new dad may feel extra pressure to earn more money whilst she isn't working.
The symptoms you may notice early on include no real interest in the baby, you will feel depressed a lot of the time, and you may even dread going home. It is important that you do not ignore these feelings. You should consult your doctor immediately and try and see what support is available to you. Or, you could do some research online and fin d a community with other men that are suffering from the condition. Either way, do not leave these feelings to build up or they will get a lot worse.
