Henry III reigned as the King of England from 1216-1272.
He was the son of King John I of England and Isabella of Angouleme. As Henry was only 9 years of age, when he was crowned by King, the country was led by Regents until he was old enough to take command.
When Henry reached the age where he would assume responsibility as King, he looked towards the French system as a guide for his monarchy. This caused a great deal of unrest at home, where his English Barons were not pleased with the favouritism towards the French Nobles.
However it was a war between Henry and French-born friend de Montford, that would spark the Battle of Lewes and ultimately saw Henry and his son being captured and imprisoned for 15 months. Edward eventually escaped and took back the monarchy.
Henry III married Eleanor of Provence and they had five children together named Edward, Margaret, Beatrice, Edmund and Katharine.
Henry III died in 1272 and was succeeded by his son Edward.
