It sounds like this cat is an indoor/outdoor cat, which a number of pet care specialists advise against. It is too easy for a cat to become injured, lost, pet-napped for a laboratory, or infected with parasites, or a disease. I almost forgot - a "cold" in cats is bad. They get respiratory infections that may be mild or lethal, depending on the virus, like FIV or FELV, for which there is no cure. Those are AIDS-related viruses sometimes found in strays or feral cats, and spread to other cats by bites, or body fluids. Upper respiratory infections are like our colds, runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes maybe, sore throat, cough maybe. If they get a stuffy nose they will not eat - they cannot smell their food. A vet is needed. Do NOT give human cough remedy or cold remedy. Cats are sensitive to chemicals that dogs are not. Give unsalted broth, fresh water, warm place to sleep, and keep indoors till recovered. Feed moist food to help keep hydrated, not dry. Moist is also easier to smell, so more appetizing.
