Indianapolis is the state capital and largest city of the state of Indiana, USA, and is situated in the central part of the state.  It has a population of over 700,000.  Indianapolis is the commercial, transportation and industrial centre for a large area of the state, has a major grain and livestock market, and is famous for its 'Indie 500' annual car race, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway site.  The city is also home to the Colts American football team and the Indiana Pacers basketball side.

Indiana is a midwestern state in the north central US and covers an area of 36,291 square miles.  The state has a population of around six million.  It is bordered by Lake Michigan and Michigan state, Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois.  It is primarily a manufacturing state, though about three quarters of the land is used for agriculture. Indiana calls itself 'the crossroads of America' since many rail, road and air transportation lines converge there.
