    What Was The Use Of Salt In The Old Days?

    I am doing a project for my chem class and need to know what were the uses of salt in the old days.

    Probably the most interesting historical use of salt is that it was widely accepted as currency, it was actually used as money.
    In fact, I believe it is still used as such in some parts of Ethiopia.

      Salt was used as a rub preservative on their meat. There was no refrigeration so they covered it with salt to preserve the meat. People in the cities bought their meat fresh from the local meat shop (butcher)and didn't use the salt method.

      It was used to preserve meats, as they had no refrigerators back then. Also used were spices

      Meat had to be cured with salt to prevent spoilage during long winters where hunters had less chance to land a kill. Meat was salted and stored in cool cellars to preserve its freshness during hot months as well.
