A lovely idea and one that i would love. Unfortunately it will not happen. People have lost sight of the true importance of Christmas and it is now nothing more than a sales gimmick. People cannot and should not be forced to participate in this lovely idea because to do so would hypocritical. It has to occur willingly so the chances are slim. This is why i can get some satisfaction by attending mass and worshipping with the wider family of the church.

Realistically things will continue status quo but that is not being negative because changes can be made by one person at a time. If you begin with your family and then your children teach their children and so on then this commercialism of Christmas can be changed so that people celebrate the true meaning of Christ-mas.

Maybe the Puritans, at the Plymouth Bay Colony, were closier in this matter that the real purpose is to dwell on the Family of God. I'm tired of almost be forced to 'buy' something...bigger...better each year just like trained seals!

Possibly a half step is in order...purchasing gift certificates to established Charities which would bring food & tools, etc. To people in need world-wide?
