What Christmas Displays Are On At Osborne House This Year?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Osborne House on the Isle of Wight used to be one of the homes of Queen Victoria and it is now run by English Heritage for the general public with visits possible throughout the year.

Preparations are currently setting up Christmas displays for visitors over the festive period. In the Queen's Dining Room, the table will be set with the settings for a typical Victorian dessert course. The displays in the Sitting Room will show a selection of presents that were received by Queen Victoria over several Christmases in her life.

Queen Victoria spent time at Osborne House every Christmas from the time she was married until 1861 when her husband, Prince Albert, died. She was grief stricken for the rest of her life but found some comfort in returning to Osborne in the years that followed. For some time, Christmas was a sad occasion but, with the arrival of many grandchildren Osborne became a happier place in later years.

The displays this year will run until the 7th January 2007.
