Are There Any Outdoor Swimming Pools In London?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

In 2006 there are still some outside swimming pools, often known as Lidos, available to the public, even though many people believe that they have all been shut.  It is true that many have closed over the last fifty years.  Partly this is due to a change in public  preferences, with many people preferring heated indoor pools, with very private change facilities.  Some have experienced significant levels of vandalism or lack of public funds available to keep them open.

However, there are around 11 open-air swimming pools still available and many are open daily.  These are : Brockwell, Charlton, Finchley, Hampstead, Highgate, Hampton, Hornsey Park Rd, Oasis (central London), Parliament Hill, Richmond, Serpentine, Tooting Bec and Trent park which is part of Middlesex University.
