    Botanical medicine refers to the use and development of knowledge based on the medicinal properties of the plants for treating and preventing psychological as well as physiological diseases. Botanical medicine is an essential ingredient in the study of Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, naturopathy, aromatherapy, homeopathy and flower essence therapy.

    Since ancient times, people could realize the importance of plants for medicinal purpose. It can be used in treating various problems ranging from simple like mosquito bite to complex like plague. The development of knowledge of botanical medicine may depend on personal experimentation, local custom, anecdote, as well as folk tradition.

    Botanical medicine can be prepared in different forms or methods depending on the remedy used and the illness being addressed. Some of the forms are given below:

It may not produce a dramatic over-night effect like pharmaceutical drugs.
