How Do You Plant A Vegetable Garden?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

To plant vegetable in your garden the first and foremost thing you should do is to prepare the land for the plantation. Any plant requires a soft ground to grow, so the first thing you should do is to plough the land. After ploughing, you should use a rake to get rid of any thing that is undesirable. When the land is quite soft you should use some manure to enhance the fertility level of the soil.

When your land is ready for the plants, you should plant them and according to requirements, you should also sprinkle some pesticide. If you don't want to use any chemical, you can also go for the leaves of neem, an Indian tree, which has the effect of any pesticide and it has no harmful chemical in it.

So follow these steps and start growing vegetable in your garden.

When getting ready for a vegetable garden, flower bed, or specimen/bush bed/border,  first use a square shovel to remove sod.  If there are weeds, get them plucked before they go to seed (this will always be the rule for any weed!).  The bare soil then needs to be loosened, turned, and conditioned (with peat, compost, and/or manure).  If you don't have access to a rototiller, *don't bite off more than you can chew*...keep it small.  Subsequent years, if you keep weeds out before they go to seed, the turning of the soil may not be necessary if it's fluffy enough.  If you pull out all the previous year's  'annuals', the soil is probably a lot looser than the first year.  If you have top dressed the garden around the plants with compost, manure, or small leaves/clippings, year two should be plenty easy.
If you have trouble keeping weeds out, consider rug strips, newspapers, or cardboard between rows, but check often for slugs!! [Slug eggs look like white 'caviar' whereas worm eggs are similar in color and texture to worms, and not so very round.]
For flower beds, mulch with leaves or 'pretty' mulch.  Plant annuals around small bushes for a few years, and don't forget annual flowers in the vegetable garden.
