Alexandria is just minutes from downtown Washington, DC, It offers convenient access to the capital so if you are planning on travelling to Alexandria then here are the top 5 things which you should do whilst your are there:

    1. Old Presbyterian Meeting House
This 18th-century church took on a greater significance during the Revolutionary War, when it became the central meeting place for various groups of patriots. Now the facility is primarily known as the site of George Washington's eulogy, and as the home of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution

    2. George Washington Masonic National Memorial

The local national hero, George Washington, is memorialized with a stately statue in front of this spire-topped building. Made of bronze and surrounded by columns, the statue is a fitting tribute to the first president, who was once a member of this lodge. Inside in the Replica Lodge Room learn more about Washington's life, career and legacy, and head to the ninth-floor observatory for sweeping views of the DC skyline.

    3. Stabler – Leadbeater Apothecary Shop

This shop was the local gathering place and pharmacy in Alexandria for 141 years before it had to close its doors during the Depression. Today's visitors are treated to a rare glimpse into life of the 1800s, since the store still looks the same. Examine various potions, tools, furnishings, and the medicinal herbs grown by pharmacist Edward Stabler. A unique sightseeing stop for those interested in history, medicine or science

    4. Black History Resource Centre

The entire African-American experience is explored at this well-organized museum. Made up of a library, reading room, and a heritage park, the facility focuses on the lasting legacies and continuing contributions made by black Americans to Virginia and to the US. This is an excellent place to learn about slavery, abolition and civil rights with exhibits stretching from the late 1700s to today.

    5. Bistrot Lafayette

This is an Old Town favourite; Bistrot Lafayette serves French Provincial fare in a casual environment. Unpretentious and tasty, the menu offers traditional cuisine with a few surprises. Start with portobello fricassee with garlic butter and confit or a bowl of homemade soup. Dinner includes rack of lamb, beef bourguignon, grilled salmon, and pork. A visit is a must.
