Sickle cell is when your red blood cells look like a oval shaped cell that has some difficulty passing through without clumping together. You are usually in sickle cell crisis then and its very painful. Your Dr should have explained this further with you and given you some material to read about sickle cell. If not call his office and request some to help you understand better. Please rate my answer

It is a blood disease,whereas the blood cells take the shape of a sickle or a Question mark ? When flowing they get hooked into one another and can not flow freely and that causes a lot of pain to the person that has the disease, these times are called crisis and have to have hospitalization treatment most people with the disease live to be in their 40's and some younger....hope you find this helpful to you.......
