    Tuscany is situated in the west-central part of Italy. It covers a large area of about 22,992 square kilometers or 8,877 square meters. Florence is the capital of the region called Tuscany. According to history the Etruscans was the first who settled over the place, it was 1000 B.C. Later it had been come under the rule of Roman in the 3rd century B.C. In the 6th century it was commanded by Lombard. In the time of 12th to 13th century it consisted of several independent states. Those were consequently amalgamated under the Medici family of Florence.

    Tuscany was passed to the house of Lorraine in the year of 1737. It was included to Sardinia as well as the kingdom of Italy in the year of 1860. The region went through rigorous damage during the Second World War. It was also damaged by extensive floods in the year of 1966.

    Tuscany is the place where the world famous Carrara marble is the natural mineral resource. Olives, olive oil, wines and livestock are the basic agricultural products of Tuscany. It is also important as a historical centre, including Florence and Pisa. According the census report of the year 2001, its population was 3,460,835.
