B Is The Midpoint Of AC. Find The Length Of BC If AB = 7y - 30 And AC =3y -5?

Answer Question

    The length of BC is half the length of AC, and equal to the length of AB.
      BC = (7y - 30) = (1/2)(3y - 5)
      2(7y - 30) = 3y - 5    (multiply the equation involving y by 2)
      14y - 60 = 3y - 5    (use the distributive property to eliminate parentheses)
      11y = 55    (add 60-3y to both sides)
      y = 55/11 = 5
      BC = 7y - 30 = 7*5 - 30 = 35 - 30 = 5
    The length of BC is 5.
