What Does Parole Mean?

    The word parole means a number of things. In terms of the law it refers to the release of a convict or prisoner who is yet to serve out his term in prison but is released on the grounds of good behaviour, but this freedom is subject to checking and monitoring for a stated duration by some officer of the law. In this reference it may also be used when referring to the total duration of time when the prisoner is out on parole. Parole also means a password for a particular day used by an officer who is on guard. In military terms it refers to a Prisoner of War (POW) who is granted freedom before being formally exchanged on the condition of not engaging in hostilities till that date. Parole refers to the simple act of speaking in terms of linguistics.
