There are three main different types of Aphasia and those are Broca's Aphasia, Wemicke's Aphasia and Global Aphasia. Each different type affects a different part of the brain therefore it causes different affects.
Broca's Aphasia is caused due to damage to the frontal lobe of the brain. People who are affected with it tend to use extremely short, meaningful words put together in order to make themselves understood. They give a lot of effort into what they actually say and they can usually understand others. The fact that they can understand what others are saying often makes life frustrating for them as they are reminded constantly of how their speech is impaired.
Wernicke's Aphasia is caused by damage to the temporal lobe and unlike Broca's Aphasia it allows the sufferer to talk in longer sentences. However, these sentences do not often make much sense and odd words are often added to the sentences. Sufferers also cannot fully understand what is being said to them.
Finally Global Aphasia is caused by a lot of damage to the language areas of the brain. It is the most severe kind of Aphasia and sufferers will have extreme difficulties communicating.
