Lhoward Any pro forex trader will tell you that forex is not the place to cut your teeth as a day trader. Novices can get their fingers burnt quickly, even when they have had experience in trading stocks and shares.Have you been trading stock, commodity BTW?
Lack of the right technical and psycological aptitude is one of the chief reasons why people trade through brokers.

That said, you can get help from sites such as investopedia.com for the meaning of all the terms employed.I have been trading forex thro my broker AVAFX.Wonder how I couldn't find your question earlier.I always like to recommend forum participation as a great way to start up for newbies.Babypips is one of the foremost. There are various-tons of-other very active forums as well like trade2win,forexfactory,fxstreet ,goldage, dreamteam, goforex etc. There are a couple of "local" trading forums as well, dedicated to traders of particular country like the Philippines, India etc.
You can educate yourself from the various bestsellers on trading.I always like to read/watch the daily business news to keep tab and update myself.

Forex trading is always best said to be practiced, and that is underlined, on demo/virtual accounts, before we go live, as you have mentioned. You can opt from many of the broker sites.

I've been looking into forex for over a year now.  Two months ago I took the plunge and decided to buy a robot to do my trading for me.  I used it on a demo account for a month first, I would recommend anyone to do this.  I then opened a live account.  So far I haven't been disappointed with it, yes it makes some losses but it wins over 90% of the trades it makes.  So, so far so good.
