Nucleotides have two parts to them:
    1) A nucleoside; and
    2) A phosphate
A nucleoside is composed of a nitrogenous base bonded to a sugar molecule. There are two classes of bases; the purines (adenine and guanine) and the pyrimidines (thymine, uracil and cytosine).
