Does Water Conduct Electricity? Explain.

Answer Question

Yes water can conduct electricity to a varying degree depending upon how much metallic salts are dissolved in it. These cause ions to carry electrons though the water just like current flows through wires.

Not exactly what I was asking, but what you have written is exactly correct.

Water is a good conductor of electricity. If your not sure (and I wouldn't try this) just hold a "live" wire at its open end and step into a puddle of water and you'll see a 'shocking' result. I'm not sure about the science of this question, but I assume that the molecules in water are close together (which is also the reason that water has a tough surface tension) and that would make for a fast transmission of electricity.

I'm sorry to say, only a small part of this is true. Yes, a puddle of water with a live wire in it will shock you, but it is the many other elements in the water that are conducting the electricity. For all intents and purposes water DOES NOT conduct electricity. If you had a plastic tub filled with distilled water and touching a power source, you could immerse your hand in it while you were grounded and not feel even a little tingle, as totally pure water has no conductor properties whatsoever.

You misunderstood. I didn't ask if it produced electricity, I asked if it conducted it, like copper or aluminum.

Well you see.. If it produces it then it can conduct.. Just not that knowledgable.. And i think you can search it easily in google.. Than ask people.. They usually give false, unsatisfying answers.. =) when dealing with facts..

The waters force turns generators that produce the electricity magnetically, it doesn't make it itself. Pure water does not conduct electricity, the metallic elements in the water conduct it.
