Carrots are an excellent source of carotenes. They were once thought to be useful only for the body to convert into vitamin A but today they are known for many other health benefits.
Some of the therapeutic properties of carrot are as follows
It reduces the risk o lung cancer- studies have shown people who eat carrots regularly, including smokers are fat are less likely to suffer lung cancer. This is most likely because of the high level of beta carotene in carrots. Beta carotene from pills does not show the same result showing carrots have other protective factors not known as yet.
Helps guard against other forms of cancer- a high beta carotene intake from carrots and other vegetables and fruits is linked with up to 50% lower rate of cancer of bladder, cervix, colon, prostrate, larynx and esophagus and 20% reduction in the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer.
Helps to lower blood cholesterol- studies have shown that eating carrots regularly reduces blood cholesterol.
Helps guard against food poisoning- small amounts of raw carrot can kill listeria and other food poisoning organisms.
There is no restriction on the number of carrots one can eat. Carrots are the richest sources of beta-carotene.
