The major advantage is that it's portable. You can use it anyplace you go as long as the battery has enough charge. With a Wi-fi connection you can even surf the net at different places.
Another advantage is that it takes up very little space. For those who count space as a premium, it's much smaller then a desktop computer.
In a similar vein, it's much lighter weight allows one to take it places that the larger, heavier desktop wouldn't be acceptable. (Try putting that desktop in your backpack!)
